To Get There:

Take the Kancamangus Scenic Highway. The Trailhead is located at the Covered Bridge Campground, 6 miles West of the Saco Ranger Station.

Description

The parking lot is opposite the Trailhead. However, in the winter a gate prevents access across the covered bridge by car. You will need to park in the lot before the bridge and walk the extra distance.

 

Snowshoeing was moderately easy with some gradual climbs and a few steep pitches. The ledge lookout can have great views of MT Chocorua but the day we were there it was foggy and rainy.

 

If you get a brochure from the Saco Ranger Station, or from the trailhead, you can read along at numbered stations and learn about the formation of the soil and the forest.
