Description

Willoughby State Forest is a 7,300 acre undeveloped state forest. In Vermont, an undeveloped forest means that there are generally no facilities.

 

Within the park is the Willoughby Cliffs Natural Area which includes Mt. Pisgah and Mt. Hor.

 

Camping is allowed, but only primitive camping is available. That means no tent sites. And no facilities.

 

There are several remote ponds, Dolloff, Marl and Duck ponds, within the park as well as Lake Willoughby. Lake Willoughby is Vermonts deepest lake at around 300 feet. Marl Pond was once mined for "marl", calcium and magnesium corbonate deposits found on the ponds bottom. The material was used locally as a type of fertilizer. The pond is accessible by tow roads and snowmobile trails. Great for mountain biking.
